ADMISSIONS POLICY
- Grade placement is determined by Nishimachi's Admissions Committee.
- Kindergarten applicants must be five years old by August 31 of the year they begin kindergarten at Nishimachi. grade 1 applicants must be six years old by August 31 of the year they begin grade 1 at Nishimachi.
- Kindergarten applications must be received by October 31 of each year.
- Applicants for kindergarten are evaluated to assess readiness to enter Nishimachi's kindergarten program in accordance with the procedures described in the admissions procedures.
- Applicants for grades 1 - 9 are screened to determine readiness for Nishimachi's program. Students are required to have proficiency in English and mathematics.
- All students at Nishimachi must study Japanese, either as a first or additional language. Japanese classes are structured according to Japanese language proficiency as determined by Nishimachi. Prior attendance at a Japanese school does not guarantee placement in a Japanese first language class.
- Please note that the admission procedures provide a professional assessment which determines student readiness for Nishimachi. Applicants, including Nishimachi community members, are not automatically accepted. We expect that all applicants and community members respect our final decision and understand that a dual-language education is not appropriate for every student.
