Admission Aims

Nishimachi is committed to a diverse student body. We aim through our admissions process to:

  • Achieve and maintain language and gender balance.
  • Provide for cultural diversity.
  • Identify that students will embrace our philosophy.
  • Determine if applicants can successfully participate in our academic program.

Application for SY 2010 - 2011

  • Applications will only be considered for those children who were born between September 1, 2004 and August 31, 2005. The child must be 5 years old by August 31, 2010.
  • All the applications will be reviewed. In order to maintain student balance in the class, some applications may be kept in the waiting pool after the documents are reviewed.
  • Selected applicants will be invited to take an in-person screening. Parents' interview will be scheduled at the same time.
  • Please note that the admission procedures provide a professional assessment which determines student readiness for Nishimachi. Applicants, including Nishimachi community members, are not automatically accepted. We expect that all applicants and community members respect our final decision and understand that a dual-language education is not appropriate for every student.

Applications to Kindergarten for the current school year -

Parents arriving in Japan after the opening of their child's kindergarten school year may apply for admission by completing and returning the required materials to the Director of Admissions.

To Apply, please return the following materials to the Admission Office.

  • Completed and signed application/health form with a passport size photo of applicant
  • A copy of the birth certificate of the applicant
  • A family photo (a snap shot is acceptable)
  • Proof of payment of non-refundable application fee of 20,000 yen or $200 (Bank transfer receipt or check made payable to Nishimachi International School)
  • Confidential Student Reference from the applicant's current teacher
