Dear Alumni & Nishimachi-Kai Members,
A belated Happy New Year to everyone! An unusually snowy winter has graced us here in Tokyo, but Nishimachi has been as busy as ever with some very important events. Here are some news and updates from the past few months that we’d like to share with you.
A) 60th Anniversary Celebrations Report
We had a very successful Founder’s Day week capped off by a wonderful 60th Anniversary Celebration in our Ushiba Memorial Gymnasium and it was so nice to see so many familiar faces. The social was attended by 184 people, of which 60 were alumni. The class of 1970 was well represented with 17 people celebrating their 40th anniversary!
We’d like to take this opportunity to thank everybody involved to make the evening so memorable. In addition, we’d like to extend a very special “thank you” to Nancy Forster and Kawai-sensei for their attendance and sharing their Nishimachi experiences and speaking about what makes Nishimachi so unique. For everyone in attendance and also for those who couldn’t come, photos have been uploaded to the Nishimachi website. Please have a look!

B) Matsukata House Renovation and Fundraising
The reinforcements and renovations for the Matsukata House were completed in December, and it was opened for touring during Founder’s Day week. Total donations have amounted to ¥21,402,000 from 146 donors (¥5,828,000 from 81 alumni donors). A very big thank-you to those of you who have made donations!
We have just a little more to go to reach 100 alumni donors! As a reminder, if you’d still like to have your name printed on the donor plaque in the Matsukata House please make your contribution by June 30th!

C) Alumni Questionnaire
Thank you very much to those who responded to the alumni questionnaire. The school values your feedback and takes it into consideration when formulating future plans. The school will be publishing a summary of results on the website and holding a meeting with the Nishimachi-Kai community in April to take further feedback. Details will be sent to you during the month of March.
D) Nishimachi Vikings Sports Report
The boys' basketball teams' regular season is now over and both A and B teams finished with great records! The B-team had an undefeated 6-0 season, while the A-team had only one loss in the regular season. The A-team, seeded second in the annual A-team tournament on February 6th, missed the finals with a disappointing one-point loss to ASIJ in the semis. CAJ went on to win the tournament.
Girls' basketball will kick off on March 1, 2010. First game, March 13th versus ISSH at NIS.
E) Nishimachi Gala Auction

As you all know, this school year is not just another year for Nishimachi. This year is a very special one as we are celebrating Nishimachi's 60th anniversary. The Auction Gala is intended to be the highlight of all celebrations, so please be sure not to miss it! We welcome your support and donations for the auction.
