Learning Japanese Culture
A balanced education depends upon academic, social, emotional, and physical development opportunities. At Nishimachi, students are involved in cultural events which enrich their understanding of Japan, both during the school day, after school, and on day and overnight trips. Each grade level is involved in day field trips which enhance the academic curriculum. These include, planting rice with the students at our sister school in Kurohone (Gunma Prefecture), experiencing a taiko drum demonstration, or pounding cooked rice balls during omochitsuki on a cold winter’s day. Other special events in and around Tokyo, that align with curricular units of study and interest to our students are scheduled throughout the year.
